More Complex Than Anticipated, Indeed

Assisted Reproduction Bill Dropped

State Sen. Patricia Miller, R-Indianapolis, issued a one-sentence statement Wednesday saying: "The issue has become more complex than anticipated and will be withdrawn from consideration by the Health Finance Commission."

The "issue" in question is, of course, the Turkey Baster Bill, and "more complex than anticipated" means "the public caught on to the crazy-assed batshit we were trying to pull." I've read on local Indiana blogs that Miller's office was flooded calls yesterday to the point they stopped answering the phones. Great work, folks.

Unfortunately, the bill doesn't represent an isolated phenomenon. The GOP does this ALL the time. I hope we'll take a lesson from this not just on the power of citizen activisim, but also why we need to make the Democrats an opposition party.

In the meantime, it is still nice to win for a change, even if it is just a skirmish.
